The Neuropathology Scheme assesses 2 archival surgical Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained sections, and 2 special stained sections.This scheme has been running since 2001 and is available to both public and private institutions within the UK and overseas.

Stain A comprises routine histology special stain, and stain B comprises specialist neuropathological methods. Participants will be expected to submit 2 H&E stained sections plus, specialist stain B from their patient archives. 2 unstained sections will continue to be provided to each Participant for routine Cellular Pathology method stain A.
For Special B, where a method is not specified, the laboratory / organisation are free to use any suitable technique to demonstrate the target. For neuropathology, the methods in list B may include immunocytochemical techniques where that is the organisation’s method of choice.
